Description
Tom Porter and his friend Bob Kerr built this cabin on Porter's timber claim on the shore of the Skagit River in the late 1880s. The cabin is notched, using a double dove-tail on the corners, and has no nails. Porter married Mima Kerr in 1891. They had six children. Mima planted a rose bush she had brought from eastern Canada. The cabin and rose bush were moved two miles downstream to their location in Steelhead Park in Rockport in 1967. The Skagit River is just behind the trees at the back of the cabin. March 2020.
