Description
The Washington State Capitol building houses the legislative chambers, and the offices for the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, the Secretary of State, and the State Treasurer. The dome is 287 feet high, making it the tallest self-supporting dome in the United States and the fifth tallest in the world. The entrance is framed by eight Corinthian columns reached by 42 steps, commemorating the admission of Washington as the 42 state in the US. On this day in late July, the sky was clear and blue, a perfect backdrop for the white Washington limestone.
