Description
Two days after Thanksgiving, the nave of the adobe-walled church of Santa Rose de Lima retained a dusting of snow along the ancient, thick walls. Faithful visitors have left paintings of sacred scenes, and a crucifix and wreaths, each decorated with colorful plastic flowers. The historic church, built by Spanish settlers around 1744, rests quietly on the bank of the Rio Chama, just south of the village of Abiquiu, New Mexico.
