Description
The Skagit River rushes down from the Gorge Dam through a penstock, a very large pipe used in hydro and sewer systems, to deliver water to the hydroelectric turbines in Gorge Powerhouse. The Gorge Powerhouse is part of the Seattle City Light hydro system. This foot bridge, supported by two-inch steel cables, crosses the Skagit River from Newhalem, a small company town, to reach Ladder Creek Falls behind the powerhouse. Light snow still covered the river's shoreline in late February.
