Description
Division Street crosses the Skagit River from downtown Mt Vernon to the farmlands and tulip fields to the west on this swing bridge built in 1953. The bridge has not moved since 1967. The wooden fender in the center of the river protects the central bridge pier from boats and floating debris and logs. A two-mile long log jam from bank to bank blocked river navigation above this site from 1876 to 1879. May, 2021.
